Often people have the desire to cut themselves off and to be completely alone. One way to avoid the confusion and chaos that in holiday resorts surrounds us, especially in August. But Ischia is different! Because it is able to express its charm during the summer crowds thanks to the extraordinary variety of its landscapes. It is all magic, from the sunny beaches to the wide and restful pinewoods and from green hills of the countryside to the rocky crags of the majestic Epomeo, whose peak reaches 789 meters above sea level. The island offers the opportunity to enjoy the most varied choice of invigorating walks and attractive tours.
In fact, moving away from the island, you can discover another island, more genuine and attractive with homes and things that show the people's behaviour. In the shadow of the Castle of Ischia Ponte, fishermen continue to build fish traps and nets, spending a peaceful life and long-lived in their humanity, in chastity and fruitful fishing, open to exchange learned information in predicting the changing of the winds and sea conditions.
As the slopes of Mount Epomeo, farmers continue to exchange humble and wise information for the management of the land and the maturing of the wines in cellars, dug in tuff .
An island different, Ischia does not fail to excite, over the years, its most frequent visitor! As if by magic ... in fact, a few days ago, I moved by the monorail from the small green bush that surrounds the house where once the grapes were pressed in its wine-press, and I went towards the top of the farmhouse.
My eyes were met with a breathtaking view. I could wander from sea to sky, looking at the Castello Aragonese and the picturesque port of Ischia, built by the Bourbons by opening a volcanic crater to the sea including the islands of Procida and Vivara to the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius. A short monorail trip to the top of the terrace of the Mediterranean Garden, so nicknamed by its discoverer and lover, the dear friend and winemaker Corrado D'Ambra, who could not find more appropriate name for this amazing place! I like to think that the good name of Corrado is attributable to the entire island which is still able to maintain its greatest attractions despite the arrival of those tourists who do not respect the beauty of the area.
My excursion is able not only to admire a breathtaking sunset, but also to enjoy the pleasures of the table on the terrace of the Mediterranean Garden, where, thanks to the culinary art of Chef Umberto Castellaccio, by appointment only, you can taste extraordinary dinner. The fragrances of the garden combine with seafood and the flavors of the earth to return to the tradition of Ischia, enhanced by the wine cellars of Pietratorcia, will not fail to excite all the holidaymakers who want really to know Ischia in depth!
