Getting together many plant species, found throughout the world in one place to allow researchers and enthusiasts to be able to appreciate the features without having to go from side to side of the Earth.
This is the peculiarity of the Ravino Gardens, one of the greatest examples of biodiversity and one of the most famous botanical gardens in Europe. The Garden awarded the Prize of the Observatory and the European Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe – Commission for Tourism and "has been able to combine the botanical tradition collected by the ship's captain, Giuseppe D'Ambra with the modern standards set in conscientious environmental and social issues. All this is contributing to the promotion of an enchanted island and unique in Italy" in 2010, these gardens are a true spectacle of nature, born from a dream, the result of a job lasted five years.
Beyond the time spent for the sale of the land - where instead of gardens there was a share-cropping vineyard - the transformation into a botanical garden has been slow and gradual. With loving care, after having given the screws to the Pietratorcia farm, which is a tradition for the island of Ischia, the long-time sailor, so called by his son, Giuseppe D'Ambra decided it was time to show outside his private collection of plants come from German, so that also others could benefit from their unique beauty. The change of the ground, the work behind closed doors, eventually led to the image of Ravino Gardens today, open to the public in 2006, whose Terrace of the Grusoni is very particular for the reflection of sunlight at sunset giving a reddish color to the plants. Among the various species, the European succulent plants (so defined those plants are able to store large amounts of water), improperly called "succulent", there are only two: Sempervivum and Sedum. The former consists of about 40 species, belonging to the family of Crassulaceae, and have the typical developing into rosette, and the latter, however, including about 600 varieties of species, not only succulent but also "xerophilous" or "xerophytic" - term, the latter, which derives from the typical environments in which they are able to resist, characterized by deep drought - and used as ornamentals for their attractive appearance.
All other plants, however, are imported, and in particular the Aloe, whose therapeutic properties are well known since ancient times. It is the plant that cured the wounds to the shoulder of Alexander the Great, occurred in the battle of Idaspe, fought on the banks of the Indus in 326 BC. A aloe plant has the highest concentration of oxygen molecules, the concentration that gives it its healing properties. Besides aloe, the excel Opuntia (whose name derives from the greek "Opus", the ancient capital of Locride), genus of plants belonging to the family Cactaceae, including the famous prickly pear, whose importation was due to Christopher Columbus. A plant from South America, whose name was used by Pliny the Elder. Among the Agaves, however, genus of monocotyledonous plants, belonging to the family Agavaceae, that one stand up a mile is Queen Victoria, characterized by sharp margins, which is one of the smallest. Of equal importance is Chorisia speciosa, known today as "Ceiba speciosa," tree belonging to the Bombacaceae family (Malvaceae according to the classification APG) very succulent in stem. Describe all the plant of Ravino Gardens, would be a shame, because you have to cross them, for an extension of 6,000 square meters, to realize the idea of his genius creator.
You will be amazed also by the variety mostruos, crested and variegated, but you can participate in many initiatives. Ravino Gardens, open from 9.00 am to sunset, and until August 30 also in the evening, from 20.30 to 23.30 (for groups of 10 or more reservations are require - 329.4983923), are in fact the seat of GAS (Group Purchasing Solidarity) "Megalesia" and association "Tommaso Cigliano", whose purpose is the diffusion of knowledge and homeopathic medicine, as well as events in collaboration with the world organization "Doctors Without Borders", (Nobel Prize Peace 1999), to raise awareness of health and social issues. The Ravino Gardens intend to be a source of ideas for the promotion of the sustainable tourism. It is not bounded by the traditional concept of a botanical garden, but it wants to enrich with new and expanded contents in order to encompass a range of related services, such as exhibitions, art exhibitions, crafts, photography, editorial reviews, stage performances, screenings, concerts, conferences and conventions.
